The Viking Ship of Hedeby. A film from the Hedeby Viking Museum, originally shown on the Archaeology Channel. “In 1953 a diver exploring the former harbor area of the long-abandoned early medieval commercial town of Hedeby in northern Germany discovered the wreck of a Viking ship embedded in the muddy bottom. This ship remained submerged until 1979, when an ambitious archaeological excavation project recovered and preserved the vessel for all to see at the Viking Museum of Hedeby. This film follows the progress of that excavation and shows how a modern replica of a Viking ship was built. A film by Kurt Denzer“
