Massive anti-lockdown demonstration in Amsterdam turns into real mayhem with protesters being mauled by police dogs and beaten with batons There were scuffles when thousands of protesters took to the streets in Amsterdam on Sunday, despite a ban on gatherings issued by the city's administration, to protest against the lockdown extension and government restrictions aimed at combating the COVID-19 pandemic. A protest took place a day before the government is set to decide whether to extend the national lockdown and current COVID-19 restrictions. A lockdown was enacted on December 19 ordering all non-essential businesses to close. The lockdown was to last until at least January 14. Eighty-five percent of the Dutch adult population has received the COVID-19 vaccine, but fewer than nine percent have gotten the booster shot.
