In one of the worst violence seen in decades, the Lebanese capital had turned into a war zone for almost four hours. Fierce gun battle broke out in port city of Beirut. Army tanks have rolled in. Ambulance sirens were wailing across the city and evacuations were carried out by police and civilians.
