Really neat footage of the first litter of the newly-formed Vermilion River Pack! The pack had a litter of 4 pups and this footage of the pups was taken at the 3rd den the pack used this spring. The pack had their pups in early April at a den that had been dug-out/excavated in sandy soil. After a few weeks, they decided to move all the pups to another den about 1.2 kilometers away. This second den was just on the ground under the trunk of massive white pine (the pine had to be a 200 year old tree as the trunk above the den was about 5-6 ft wide). The den basically looked like a big nest under the tree. The pack remained there for another few weeks before moving the pups another 300 meters or so to this rock den on a pine-covered ridge. Wolves moving their pups to different dens is quite common in our area and so not surprising to see these shifts. Anyway, the pups were in great shape, as you can see in the video, and quickly becoming quite agile and nimble (sort of) in the woods! We look forward to seeing how many of these pups survive until adulthood.
