A lucky encounter with our cousins from #Borneo. Mother and child orangutan near a wildlife rehabilitation Center in Malaysia (The #Semenggho Nature Reserve in #Kuching, #Sarawak ). Infants (baby) and juvenile orangutans won't gain independence from their mothers before adolescence (7 -10 years). By adopting a non-threatening posture I was able to reel in their curiosity if only for a split second. Big shout out to Sigourney Weaver for her portrayal of Diane Fossey in the adaptation of “Gorillas in the Mist“, who must have inspired me.
