How Russia trapped 6,000 Ukrainian troops in Artyomovsk

Artyomovsk, also known as Bakhmut, is a small city in the Kiev-controlled part of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). It is an important transportation hub that has been critical in resupplying the Ukrainian battlegroup in Donbass. Since January 2023, heavy fighting for control of the city has been underway between Russian forces and Ukrainian troops. According to Yevgeny Prigozhin, founder of private military company Wagner, which is involved in the operation, Russian forces have surrounded the city after taking Soledar, a nearby town that was used by Ukraine as a logistics base. He said that more than 80% of Artyomovsk is under Russian control, but significant resistance is still being felt in the remaining sections of the city. Prigozhin said that Ukraine continues to deploy reserves to Artyomovsk and that heavy, bloody battles are still being waged.
