French soprano Annie Rozane sings a composition by Tchaikovsky which was heard in the movie “Es war eine rauschende Ballnacht“, where it was sung by Zarah Leander, who recorded a Swedish version (see youtube Zarah Leander - Romans). The movie is about the great composer, played by Hans Stüwe... Zarah plays Katharina Alexandrowna Murakina, his (fictional) great love... Although historically incorrect, the movie is a perfect Zarah Leander melodrama, with beautiful black and white photography and of course the magnificent music of Tchaikovsky which is present in nearly every scene... Theo Mackeben provided Zarah Leander with the famous “Nur nicht aus Liebe weinen“... The movie was released in France as “Pages Immortelles“ on 27/09/1940 and the songs were sung by Zarah Leander in French. Eva Busch recorded “Nur nicht aus Liebe weinen“ and the Tchaikovsky songs Tu reviendras/Chanson Triste in French - see YouTube. Annie Rozanne recorded a full version of “Tu reviendras/Romance“. It is a sad an haunting melody. Slideshow of Zarah Leander, Hans Stüwe and Marika Rökk, the stars of the movie. All pictures/images from personal collection. Enjoy
