High levels of insulin are the cause of weight gain. There is a hormone in the small intestine called GIP or gastric inhibitory polypeptide that gets triggered every time you eat by sending the signal to the pancreas to increase the insulin. Gastric Bypass is the process of cutting the part of the stomach by taking the large part and bypassing it thereby taking out the GIP it lowers your insulin and causes you to lose weight and lower diabetes BUT it comes with a lot of side effects.
