#drum myth number 1.: Rudiments = the ABC’s of #DRUMMING Here’s a post for the #drummers and drum students. Saying that a couple of dozen American rudiments are a basic component of learning the #drums is just dumb. Why not their inversions? Why not shifted accents? Why is a flamadiddle more valuable to learn than inverted flamadiddle? Saying that basic #rudiments are more useful than hybrid rudiments is just uncreative garbage. And you don’t have to take my word for it. Rhythm is learned in other older civilisations. They all use systems to learn rhythm. Standard rudiments are nothing but PIECES OF A SYSTEM. If you do not know what the system is all rudiments are dogmatic chops you will repeat cause you’re comfortable with them. If you are a #drummer, trust me on this one: RLRLRR is NOT more basic or more important than RLLRLR or RLRRLR. There is no such thing as basic ABC’s.
