The famous musico Giovanni Carestini sang “Mio bel nume“ in Carl Heinrich Graun’s L’Orfeo when it was first performed in Berlin in 1752. In this exquisite aria Orpheus mourns the death of his beloved Eurydice. In the most refined galant style, the music makes expressive use of chromatic voice-leading schemata, including the Le-Sol-Fi-Sol and the Morte.
