On January the 2nd, 1492, the Catholic Monarchs Ferdinand II of Aragon and Isabella I of Castille accepted the total surrender of Boabdil the Moor, and entered Granada. The last bastion of the moors in Europe had fallen, and King Pelagius of Asturias' dream was fulfilled. A unified Spain would go on to become a world hegemon, extending the Reconquista to Moroccan lands, and spreading Catholicism to the Americas and Asia.
