Earlier today, in the middle of a small Sri Lankan village, I met a guy named Dhramadsa who has been carving wood for 47 years! I spontaneously sat him down to hear about his life story, and I was shocked to find out that he’s been at this wood carving job for nearly a half-century! This is not your ordinary wood carvings... Dhramadsa molds the most detailed animal sculptures (elephants, tigers, etc) starting with an empty block of wood. Each piece takes him roughly 2 weeks of work (nonstop), and he sells them in local markets for around $100 USD each. Does he do it for the money? Absolutely not. It’s just hobby that keeps him busy. He’s very content living a simple life in his beautiful village, and he plans to carve wood until he dies! Instagram @drewbinsky for daily travel content!!
