Over 40,000 evacuated in southern China as Typhoon Taba hits The China Meteorological Administration said Taba is the 16th typhoon to strike China this year. According to Xinhua News Agency, “more than 41,000 people were evacuated from dangerous areas in Jiangmen, and about 120,000 students from 182 educational institutions, including primary, secondary, and preschool levels, stopped attending classes.” Train services between several cities were suspended, and ferry links between Guangdong and Hainan provinces were also halted.
