The modernization of the J-22 aircraft (and the two-seater NJ-22 variant) was presented to the public in April 2016 under the name “Eagle 2.0“. This modernization under the auspices of SDPR Yugioimport focuses more on navigation and sighting equipment as well as new weapon installations. Details, however, about structural changes to the aircraft and the specific expansion of the arsenal of ordnance have not been made public. This proposal of modernization was received very negatively by the expert public, for good reason, or reasons, the most important of which are the following: The J-22 / NJ-22 aircraft is an technologically and technically outdated aircraft, which is in every sense both conceptually and practically overcome, so it is questionable whether any modernization of electronic navigation and weapons systems alone has significantly increased the efficiency of this aircraft; Years of production of J-22 / NJ-22 aircraft are older than those of production of G-4 aircraft and very few aircraft are from the late 1980s and early 1990s, which would be a target group for modernization; The Eagle aircraft have already extended their life expectancy from the originally envisaged 25 to 30 years of service; In the last decade and a half, aircraft of this type have become very complex and unprofitable for exploitation due to frequent failures and unavailability of spare parts, which has made the serviceability of these planes practically zero at many times. Although conceived as an assault aircraft due to its many developmental complications, the J-22 never reached what its designers predicted - its thrust-to-mass ratio is far below what is needed for the assault aircraft, and the payload and radius of action for the aircraft for these purposes are desperately small.
