Wednesday marked the sixth day of anti-ICE protests in the Los Angeles area. The curfew implemented for downtown L.A. is in effect for a second night. Local authorities have arrested hundreds of people in recent days. Meantime, LAPD declared an unlawful assembly outside City Hall on Wednesday. During a press conference Wednesday, LA County Sheriff Robert Luna said the Army—now overseeing the National Guard and Marines—has outlined their mission as protecting federal functions, facilities, and personnel. He emphasized ongoing efforts to clarify communication and coordination, noting that military personnel do not have the powers to detain or arrest people. According to U.S. Northern Command, “By direction of Secretary of Defense and in coordination with U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), approximately 4,000 California Army National Guard soldiers were placed under federal command and control in a Title 10 status.
