Who hasn’t watched Mythbusters and wanted to make something blow up and then watch it in slow motion? We made this see though propane blaster to do just that. 👇 more info & disclaimer below 👇 Watch the aftershow here: This was quite an experiment for us both in terms of the build and by getting into “science” like content. Instead of building a typical potato/spud launcher we used propane as the fuel, which let us fire faster… once we figured out how to get it to fire... NOTE: We cannot recommend doing this. We have background and experience that allows us to take this on safely. A propane combustion should only produce 40-50 PSI at atmospheric pressure with normal atmospheric oxygen levels. To be safe we used Schedule 80 pipe with a minimum pressure rating of 140 PSI for all connections. If you make something like this despite our warning, PPE should be worn at all times (ear and eye protection). This was inspired by three other channels: NightHawkInLight (), TheBackYardScientist (), and SmarterEveryDay () SKIP TO THE SLOW MOTION MONTAGE 11:44 TOOLS / MATERIALS (affiliate) ■ Our new 1000 FPS camera ^ this also has a great selfie mode ■ 3d Printer (Taz6) ■ Matterhackers Black PLA ■ Stainless steel PLA ■ Magnetic iron PLA STAY UP TO DATE ■ Instagram @evanandkatelyn ■ Twitter ■ Pinterest ■ Blog ■ Etsy THANK YOU TOP PATREON SUPPORTERS! This was quite an experiment for us both in terms of the build and by getting into “science” like content. Instead of building a typical potato/spud blaster, we used propane as the fuel, which let us fire faster… once we figured out how to get it to fire. It was fun using different skills and techniques to bring this together. Particularly, 3D printing played a heavy role. We 3D printed lots of the fasteners we used (for the propane and the strap) and the projectiles themselves! Being able to quickly test different projectiles was super important for our testing. We got a slow motion camera specifically for this project and I'm so glad we did! It was incredibly satisfying blowing up watermelon and getting those shots! The cokes was surprisingly explosive and the egg was gross haha! We do want to continue working on this propane blaster. We've gotten so many awesome tips and suggestions from you guys - thank you! We also might our hand at making other types of blasters in the future - maybe an air-powered one!
